Pizza sauce recipe

Onion Rings

The origin of pizza sauce may be traced back to Naples, Italy, the birthplace of pizza. Pizza sauce is a key component of traditional Neapolitan pizza, which goes back to the late 1800s. San Marzano tomatoes, famed for their sweet and tart flavour, are crushed and blended with garlic, olive oil, salt, and sometimes herbs like basil or oregano to make Neapolitan pizza sauce. The sauce is gently simmered to allow the flavours to blend. The tomato-based sauce’s simplicity and freshness match the pizza’s toppings and crust, providing a pleasant balance of flavours. As pizza travelled beyond Naples and achieved worldwide appeal, different regional and international pizza sauce varieties arose, each inspired by local ingredients.
